Wigiser Award to the OUTSTANDING FEMALE STUDENT / ATHLETE for the 2001-2002 School Year |
The
Margaret Wigiser Award honors the outstanding female student-athlete from
among all the HEISMAN PSAL WINGATE award winners for the 2001-2002 school year. Margaret Wigiser was the Assistant Director of the Public Schools' Athletic League, now retired. During her tenure, Ms. Wigiser was instrumental in developing both the program design and the standards for Girls' Interscholastic Athletics in the New York City Public Schools. The development of the guidelines, which later became Title IX of Federal Education Law, fostered equity for women's' athletics which, until that time, had not existed. The Heisman Foundation and the PSAL Wingate Fund are proud to salute Ms. Wigiser for her leadership in the field of high school women's' interscholastic sports. |

| The
John Glading Memorial Award honors the outstanding male student-athlete
from among all the HEISMAN PSAL WINGATE award winners for the 2001-2002
school year. This award is given in memory of John Glading, former Assistant Director of Health and Physical Education and Director of the Public Schools' Athletic League. John Glading also directed the PSAL program during the development of Junior Varsity sports programs, sports expansion and the development of both Sport Commissioner and Athletic Director positions in the program. He also led the development of true New York State Championships through the creation of the NYSFSHSAA championships in a number of sports. Recognized by leaders of athletic programs throughout the United States, John was always true to the philosophy that the PSAL was an integral part of the overall development of all the STUDENT ATHLETES who competed in the program. Both the HEISMAN FOUNDATION and the PSAL WINGATE FUND are proud to salute our former President through this award. |
