PSAL Award History

The PSAL WINGATE FUND was founded in 1903 as the Public School Athletic League with a combined purpose of financing and administering the athletic programs of the New York City Public Schools.

When the school system assumed primary responsibility for these activities, PSAL Inc. and the General George Wingate Fund began to provide modest supplementary funding for the PSAL program.

In 1995, PSAL Inc. and the Wingate Memorial Foundation merged to become the PSAL Wingate Fund which continues the tradition of honoring and supporting the PSAL athletes of New York City.
